This afternoon TechCrunch reported that Grockit raised $20M from media giant Discovery Communications as well as Summit Group, Atlas Venture, Benchmark Capital, Integral Capital Partners and GSV Capital Corp. The Technapex team sends our congratulations to the Grockit team! Grockit founder, Farb Nivi, was a panelist on our first Technapex edtech panel earlier this year in San Francisco.
After starting off as a social learning and test-prep company, Grockit recently launched Learnist earlier this spring. Learnist is a Pinterest-style learning website that allows teachers and students to collect and share educational content from around the web. You can read more about Learnist here and learn more about the social learning space in education here. Rip Empson from TechCrunch cited that Learnist has grown 400% over the
past six months, while also doubling the amount of time users spend on the site per session from ten minutes to over twenty minutes.
The investment from Discovery is significant, with TechCrunch claiming that, “This not only marks the first time that the TV and media giant has invested in a social learning startup, but
it also brings Grockit’s total investment to just under $45 million.”
