Our upcoming Technapex EdTech Panel and Mixer is just around the corner (you can get tickets here) and will be hosted at the Wix Lounge in New York. It turns out that Wix is more than just a free co-working space for creative professionals; the Wix Lounge is run by Wix.com, a free publishing platform,
which has seen adoption in the edtech space recently. We sat down with Ashley from the Wix team a few weeks ago to learn a bit more.
Wix.com offers easy-to-use tools for building desktop, mobile, and Facebook websites. It’s a drag and drop design that is rather intuitive and it turns out that several teachers, students and administrators have been turning to Wix.com’s tools to build custom websites for for classrooms and after-school activities. It’s not intimidating as you don’t even have to know code in order to make and customize your site.
Wix offers a gallery of free templates to get you started, or you can make your own. Built on a freemium business model, Wix earns money through premium upgrades; for example, you can pay to connect your Wix website to your own domains.
The websites really do look high-quality. You can check out a website created by the Richard R Green High School of Teaching here.
